Testing, testing… 4, 5, 6…

…’cos 1, 2, 3 is boring.

I’m going to post a couple of exterior photographs to try testing out the New and Improved “Lily’s Picture Book” Coppermine Gallery.

Let’s see if these work alright… please let me know whether you encounter any problems, will you? I’m using a widescreen monitor so these may display differently on yours.

First up: A memento from our Christmastime snowstorm fallout. Probably about two feet had accumulated when this pic was taken, and the snows weren’t even done falling yet! The shot is of my backyard patio/deck. It’s a darn good thing that I wasn’t planning any barbecues LOL…

...some White Christmas...

Today I encountered a random visitor who had dropped by inquiring about the house being for sale. Our conversation shifted to a house that he owned for which he was looking for a responsible person to rent out the basement living space! Not only that, but his asking price for rent is within my range, he doesn’t mind the cat, Internet is available, AND it’s within walking distance to my job!

So, after he left I was feeling particularly upbeat and optimistic (more than usual LOL). I went outside for a moment and while looking east spied this vertical rainbow seemingly shooting into the clouds. It was beautiful :-D

Well… technically, it’s only the base of a normal rainbow, but the remainder wasn’t to be seen. So we can call it a vertical rainbow. I will, anyway xD

a vertical rainbow; no pot of gold necessary

Hope springs Eternal…

First off, CongratulisationĂ©s on the (possible) move to that random visitor’s basement living area! Now that’s opportunity knocking! Have you gotten a chance to check it out yet? Will it be big enough for you? And I assume he won’t mind, or more than likely know about, Lily and Eden? Shi-chan and I are keeping our fingers crossed for you! :-)

Second, this can probably be chalked up to differing monitor sizes (mine is at 1280×768), but your pics are a wee bit… big. Maybe judicious use of thumbnails might solve the problem? Or perhaps delicious use of thumbnails? The sky’s the limit.

And that’s fab that you got a shot of the base of the rainbow bridge to Asgard! Tell Odin and Freya we said Hi next time you see ‘em! And tell Loki he still owes me $15, that tosser.

Thanks; it really was a timely visit! The prospective landlord doesn’t live in the house; he rents it out. I haven’t yet seen the inside of the place as the current tenants must vacate the premises first. Aside from the basement-dweller, there are also some who live upstairs in the house, a 3BR that I’d love to rent rather then the basement, but at ~$1000 a month it’s a little beyond my means.

But I spoke to the P.L. yesterday to assure him that I was interested and asked about when I could give him a check to hold it for me. He said that he still needs to see whether these tenants are going to leave voluntarily or if he’s going to need a court order.

THAT did not sound very promising…

But, he’s going to let me know as soon as he finds out one way or another. They were supposed to be out as of today, so he’s to swing by there by Monday and will advise me. Seems that they had moved in under the previous owner, so I do hope there isn’t any problem…

As to whether it’ll be big enough the quick answer is “no”. Since I have (essentially) a 3BR home full of “stuff” acquired over 50+ years I’ll most likely need a storage unit. More money, but they can be had relatively cheaply out here.

It’s supposed to have a bedroom, living room, and dining area, so it’s big enough for the essentials which is really all I need to “take root” out here. Much better to stay put in a friendly, beautiful locale rather than risking everything by moving back to California without a job waiting and living out of just a bedroom. Plus, this is a much more “beneficient” location than that attitudinal part of the state. Not to mention the large masses of “civilized people”. Ahem.

As for Lily-chan… well. That remains to be seen. Naturally I do plan on investigating how easy it will be to discreetly get her inside, but if that won’t work I’ll have to store her with my other things. THAT will be bloody unlikely, I can tell you! So, most likely I’ll sneak her in under cover of darkness :-D

Once inside I can hang her on her stand behind a Japanese folding screen or something. As for him (or anyone) knowing about her, it’s really nobody’s business since she’s “merely” another possession and nothing illegal or shady. I’d rather no-one know about her though to decrease any chances of vandalism or things of that nature. Not that I give a shit what anyone thinks of me for owning her LOL (You know very well how I feel about that ;-) )

But being a small town, we must be careful about how others regard us, especially in light of my more… “colorful” outbursts in our defense. I *really* don’t want to have to go there, if you know what I mean and I think you do :-P Things can get quite ugly quite quickly. Slicing and sicing the ignorant has gotten a bit old, y’see ;-)

As (I think) you may know, poor Eden exists only in a box; in other words, the face-storage box sent by Abyss. I had to sell Lily’s newer Body 6 that Eden came with, and gave Lily back her original Body 7 that Eden had been using. I kept Eden’s face, since that is the one thing that the owner really bonds with, and someday will provide her with another body… but it was sad nonetheless :-(

Ah, the pics… yeah. They’re big LOL -I tried a resizing but it didn’t take, and the thumbnails seemed much too small. So I’ll have to re-size with HTML but since I’ve been pretty busy lately haven’t had the time. Will do soon though! Thanks much for the feedback :-D

My monitor’s at 1680×1050 (the better to watch anime in widescreen on), and the pics don’t seem as piggish as on your monitor (as shown in your sample pic). I must keep visitor’s specs in mind when posting stuff.

Oh, and about the neighboring pics next to the sample highlighting your anime figures… I have one question: HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU DUST??? :-O

And Loki replied that “the check’s in the mail.”

I dunno… something about that guy seems unreliable…

Anyway, thanks and kindest regards to you and Shi-chan!

    That Loki. Grrr.

‘Dust’ my figures? What are you on about??

If you’d like, I can Email you a copy of the programme that I use for 95% of my picture editing needs: ArcSoft Photo Studio. It’s like a poor man’s version of GIMP, which is a poor man’s version of PhotoShop, but it does what I need it to do. Apart from the fact that it’s so old that it doesn’t recognise some file types, but nevertheless… let me know!
Also, a tool I find helpful for getting relative size information is the MeasureIt plugin for Firefox. Install it, click the button in your browser’s bottom left corner, and wherever you click and drag your cursor, it shows you the width and height of your dragged space in pixels. Indispensable! Odhinn bless you, Firefox plugin developers, and all who sail on you. O, wait. :-)

Best of luck with the relocation circus! Moving is always a hassle, especially when you have to reduce and box up your regular amount of belongings (like when I had to move back in with my parents circa 2004 – 2007). But a cheaper place to stay nearer what you enjoy is always a goal, so hopefully the finalisation process goes well!

*shakes head as if to clear it* ‘Dust’??

Actually, I meant how do you dust the glass shelves they’re on :-P Because they looked so clean ‘n’ sparkly! Sadly, my figures are all boxed away now, but when I lifted them off of their shelf I was reminded about how lax I’d been in dusting by the small imprints of their bases in the layer.

    Perhaps that should be EXprints ;___;

O! I got the damn resizing to work, as you can (hopefully) see! I had to fiddle with my ACDSee 9 for about 45 minutes (which is my photo-editing tool I use when I can be bothered :-P ) because it seemed that no matter how I reduced the size they still appeared about the same size as before on the Blog O.o

When I used ACDSee’s Editor though it seemed to take. I have NO idea what I did LOL Apparently “about an hour” is the limitation to my patience (and memory) these days. They’re a bit small for my tastes but I’ll leave them as is. But now my “Lily’s Picture Book” photo album has about 6 images of the same two pics! I’ll sort it out… later.

If I had more time to do this Blogging thing properly I’m sure Alastor’s would be so much better (not to mention Unbound.org). Thank the gods that I’ve got D~ to help me :-D

AND your generous and helpful self, good sir!

I’ll keep you posted about the whithers of my Move, but at this point it’s STILL a question of “should I stay or should I go?”

Apparently a friend who’s admin of hiring at a BIG company in S.F. told my buddy Dave that two job openings are impending and to let me know so he can whisk me through the approval process which passes over his desk. Which means I’d be able to probably start at around $13 an hour vs the $8.50 I get here.

AND: Dave is buying a house in Oakland that he’s willing to rent a room out to me for nothing while I get re-situated, and then once I do for about the same as the basement apt. up here. I’d be sharing it with the “kids” of the other guy he’s going in with, another friend of ~40 years and whose kids are worthy roomies.

SOOO many pluses and minuses to weigh… but I’ll not weigh down this post or your time with them any further :-)

    Arigatou!
