Faith, love and sacred corn

In the 1960s, Francisco and María’s paths crossed not once but twice in Guatemala, and they eventually married. Their love story spanning almost 60 years was strengthened by faith and, later, elder sponsorship, which helped them live out their lives with honor and dignity.

Teresa had made Buri palm–leaf bags in the Philippines for over 20 years when the COVID-19 pandemic forced her to close her small business. With an Unbound entrepreneurship grant in 2022, she bought new materials and relaunched her bag-making business, which now provides her family’s main income.
